Enabling Remote Errors in SSRS


Option 1 to Enable Remote Errors - DB Engine

1.  Connect to the database engine in SSMS and navigate to the ReportServer database.

2.  Query the ConfigurationInfo table to get familiar with it.  Issue the following query:

USE ReportServer

GO

UPDATE ConfigurationInfo

SET Value = 'True'

WHERE Name = 'EnableRemoteErrors'



Option 2 to Enable Remote Errors - Report Server

This option applies to SQL Server 2008 and newer.

1.  Connect to Reporting Services in SSMS.

2.  Right-click on the server node and go to Properties.

3.  On the Advanced page, set the EnableRemoteErrors property to True. 



Option 3 to Enable Remote Errors - Script

1.      Create a text file and copy the following script into the file.

Public Sub Main() 

  Dim P As New [Property]() 

  P.Name = "EnableRemoteErrors" 

  P.Value = True 

  Dim Properties(0) As [Property] 

  Properties(0) = P 

  Try 

    rs.SetSystemProperties(Properties) 

    Console.WriteLine("Remote errors enabled.") 

  Catch SE As SoapException 

    Console.WriteLine(SE.Detail.OuterXml) 

  End Try 

End Sub 



2.      Save the file as EnableRemoteErrors.rss.

3.      Click Start, point to Run, type cmd, and click OK to open a command prompt window.

4.      Navigate to the directory that contains the .rss file you just created.

5.      Type the following command line, replacing servername with the actual name of your server:

rs -i EnableRemoteErrors.rss -s http://servername/ReportServer
