Power BI Embedded Analytics Playground Updates

Earlier this year we released a new and improved version of our embedded analytics playground, which is a one-stop shop for Power BI embedded analytics. The playground offers a wide range of experiences, from embedding your own report and interacting with our client APIs, to exploring interactive showcases and demos.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can head over to the Power BI embedded analytics playground and start exploring, or learn more about it here.

Since the release of the new playground, we’ve been constantly working to make sure the playground fits all your needs and lets you make the most of Power BI embedded analytics. As part of that we’re thrilled to introduce the following updates.

Use your own embed token

You can now embed a report in our developer sandbox by using your own embed token. This is in addition to the existing options of embedding a sample report, or selecting one of your available Power BI reports.

developer sandbox options

If you are using the embed for your customers solution, you will be generating embed tokens using REST APIs to let your app know which Power BI content can be accessed by its users and what their access level is.

Once you’ve generated an embed token, you can enter it in the playground to test the report and ensure that the correct content and access levels have been set. You can then continue to explore our APIs and test them out on your report.

Use your embed token in the developer sandbox

If you’re using row-level security (RLS) to restrict user access to data, you can test it in the developer sandbox by inserting an embed token generated for the relevant identity you would like test. You can learn how to do so here.

If you’re interested in learning more about embedding Power BI for your customers and using embed tokens, you can read more here.

Localization

You can now view and interact with the Power BI embedded analytics playground in multiple different languages.

At the footer of the playground, you will find a drop-down menu with all the available locales. Click your preferred locale and start playing around.
